What Is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a comfortable, non-invasive exfoliation treatment that uses a diamond-tipped wand for superficial skin polishing. This treatment is easy, and effective and treats a variety of skin conditions and all skin types.

We use the DiamondTome microdermabrasion system, one of the most advanced forms of microdermabrasion. The wands have fine, medium, and coarse tips to treat all skin types from sensitive to oily. Additionally, various parts of the body can be exfoliated with microdermabrasion.

How Does Microdermabrasion Work?

After removing the outer layer of dead skin and damaged cells, the skin immediately feels smooth, healthy and revitalized. This treatment can be used for a variety of skin concerns. Microdermabrasion can be used to treat:

  • Fine lines
  • Hyperpigmentation/age spots
  • Acne scars
  • Textural issues

In addition to full face, microdermabrasion can also be used to treat the neck, décolleté, hands, arms, back, legs or any other areas of concern. It is also a great option for scarring, stretch marks and mild to moderate acne on the back. Results will immediately follow the initial treatment and skin will have a fresh, healthy pink glow.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Many Treatments Are Needed?

For optimal results, treatments are done through a course of five to six sessions spaced two to four weeks apart. Our aesthetician, who performs this procedure, will help to tailor this treatment based on your skin type and condition.

What Results Will I See?

After a consistent series, results can be dramatic. Long-term benefits include pigmentation and brown spot reduction, acne improvement and lessening of fine lines and wrinkles. This easy lunchtime procedure also enhances collagen production, so skin appears smoother and tighter. Following the treatment your skin may appear slightly flushed. These effects usually subside after an hour or so depending on the intensity of the treatments. Immediately following the procedure, a special thermal skin cooler is applied along with specially formulated creams. Post-care may also be prescribed following the treatment.

What Other Procedures and Treatments Can Microdermabrasion Be Combined With?

Microdermabrasion can be combined with a variety of treatments depending on the patient’s concern and goal. For acne, beta (salicylic) chemical peels work well to alternate with microdermabrasion. For pigmentation, TCA chemical peels or MicroPeel with glycolic peels or the Permea® laser are options to help brighten skin tone. For scarring, microdermabrasion followed by Clear + Brilliant® or fractionated CO2 laser resurfacing, can help to rebuild collagen and provide a smoother, softer texture.
