Hyaluronic acid fillers are smooth gels that are injected to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, lift/revolumize and/or contour the face to a desired appearance. As we age, soft tissue, fat, muscle and bone diminish, which can cause a loss of structure, elasticity and volume.
Hyaluronic acid fillers work by providing support and structure to areas of the aging face. These FDA-approved substances dissolve on their own over time.
Patients should expect swelling, redness, bruising and soreness at injection sites. Ice is recommended post–treatment to help minimize swelling and bruising. We ask that you avoid exercise for 48 hours post treatment to minimize delayed bruising caused by increased pressure to the vessels. Bruising can last for up to two weeks after treatment. Makeup should not be applied for 24 hours after treatment. It is okay to continue your regular skin care products.
You can expect to see an immediate effect, but the true treatment results may be appreciated within two weeks. Results can last up to one year or more depending on the product being used.
Patients who are pregnant or nursing should not have the treatment. Patients with an allergy to lidocaine cannot have treatment with injectable fillers containing lidocaine. Please notify your provider if you have severe allergies, autoimmune disease or bleeding disorders.
