Pre-Treatment Instructions

Medications and Supplements:

  • Antiviral Medication (Valtrex 1000mg): Start 2 days before your procedure and continue for 2 days after if you have a history of cold sores or herpes simplex outbreaks.
  • Topical Anesthetics: A topical numbing cream will be applied to your skin before the procedure to ensure comfort.
  • Anti-inflammatory Medications: If prescribed (e.g., Xanax for anxiety or mild sedatives), take them as directed on the day of treatment.
  • Doxycycline (if prescribed): For one week after treatment to prevent infection, especially if the procedure is more aggressive.

Skin Care and Lifestyle:

  • Hydrate Your Skin: Ensure your skin is well-hydrated in the days leading up to the procedure. Drink plenty of water and use a moisturizing skincare regimen to prepare.
  • Stop Exfoliating Products: Discontinue any exfoliants such as retinols, glycolic acid, and strong exfoliating scrubs for at least 5-7 days prior to your treatment.
  • Avoid Self-Tanning Products: Stop using self-tanner or tanning beds 2-4 weeks before treatment to avoid any irritation or complications.
  • Avoid Direct Sun Exposure: Minimize sun exposure for at least 2 weeks prior to the procedure to avoid skin sensitivity and pigmentation issues.
  • Supplements to Avoid: Stop using supplements like fish oil, Vitamin E, Vitamin A, and Ginkgo Biloba 1 week prior to treatment as they can increase the risk of bruising or irritation.
  • Medication Restrictions: Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for 1 week prior to treatment. Inform your provider if you are taking any blood thinners.
  • Avoid Alcohol: Refrain from alcohol consumption for 2 days before and 2 days after treatment to reduce the risk of swelling and complications.
  • Accutane: Inform your provider if you have used Accutane (oral acne medication) in the past year. This can affect skin healing and treatment suitability.
  • Special Events: Schedule your procedure at least 4 weeks before any significant event, such as a wedding, vacation, or other special occasions, to allow time for proper healing.

Special Considerations:

  • Arrange for Transportation: If sedatives or oral medication will be used, plan to have someone drive you to and from your appointment.
