Both lasers are great options for treating and removing pigmented lesions and unwanted tattoos.
Both are lasers that use heat to target and remove pigmented lesions and tattoos. Most men and women who have freckles, sunspots, age spots, brown birthmarks or tattoos are good candidates. We ask that you come in for a consultation prior to any laser treatment to determine the best treatment plan for you and the appropriate laser. The YAG laser works best on black, red, dark orange and dark blue tattoos. For green, purple, brown, light orange and light blue colors, we recommend the Alex Laser.
Patients will benefit from a fast, effective treatment that will result in an even skin tone. The laser feels like a rubber band snap when it pulses. It heats only the pigmented area breaking up the melanin and leaving the surrounding tissue largely unaffected.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
Some faint tattoos and pigmented lesions will fade completely after one treatment. However, most tattoos require five or more treatments spaced six to eight weeks apart.
What Results Will I See?
Immediately after the laser session the area may be swollen and become a whitish color. The whitish color will subside in about 30 minutes. Ice can be applied to the area to take down any swelling. The pigmented lesion or tattoo will fade over the next few weeks. Pigmented areas can darken up before they naturally slough off.
Is There Any Downtime?
Following a treatment, there is usually crusting of the treated area for one week. Sun exposure is strongly discouraged before and after laser sessions for one week.
