Kybella is FDA-approved to safe and effectively correct submental fullness without surgery. Moderate to severe excess fat under the chin, commonly referred to as “double chin” is the most popular treatment with Kybella. Submental fullness can impact a broad range of adults, including both women and men, and can be caused by aging, genetics and weight gain.
Each Kybella treatment is typically 15-20 minutes. The injection is made into the fat layer in and around the chin and consists of deoxycholic acid, which is similar to the body’s own natural fat dissolver which aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. Kybella is great for patients who do not want to undergo surgical liposuction but would like to enhance definition in the chin and neck area.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?
A series of two to six injections spaced four to six weeks apart is typically recommended. However, you will receive a customized treatment plan suitable to your specific concerns.
What Type of Results Will I See?
When injected into subcutaneous fat, Kybella causes the permanent destruction of fat cells. After the fat cells are destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. Once the fat is dissolved, it is naturally eliminated through the body. When the aesthetic response is achieved, necessary retreatment with Kybella is not expected.
Is There Any Downtime Associated with the Procedure?
Patients may experience bruising, swelling, redness, discomfort or numbness in the area. Swelling, bruising, redness and discomfort typically resolve within a few days and mineral makeup can be worn to camouflage some of these possible side effects. Numbness or induration (areas of hardness) can last two to three weeks after treatment.
What Treatments/Procedures Can Be Combined with Kybella?
Kybella works to eliminate unwanted fat under the chin area, however once fat is gone, patients may choose to treat with ultherapy to further tighten and contour the chin area for the best results.
