Dr. Bowers received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign before earning her medical degree from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. She completed her dermatology residency at SIU, where she went on to serve as Chief Resident. Years later, she returned to SIU as a member of the faculty, where she taught medical students and dermatology residents and ultimately served as Director of the Dermatology Residency Program.
A board-certified dermatologist and Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, Dr. Bowers has extensive experience in both private practice and academic medicine. Her academic career includes more than a decade of teaching and clinical practice at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine and Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine. She has also been actively involved in dermatology research and national medical education, including participation in clinical trials investigating conditions such as alopecia areata, psoriasis, and atopic dermatitis.
Dr. Bowers has contributed to the medical literature through publications in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, Dermatology Clinics, and other peer-reviewed journals. She has also been invited to share her expertise as a speaker at medical institutions and professional conferences throughout the country.
