Dr. Scott Zahner sees patients at Aesthetic and Clinical Dermatology Associates in Hinsdale and St. Charles, Illinois. He is a board-certified dermatologist and Mohs surgeon with a clinical focus on skin cancer and cosmetic dermatologic surgery. He also serves as VitalSkin Dermatology’s Chief Medical Officer.
Mohs surgery may be recommended for certain basal cell carcinomas and squamous cell carcinomas, particularly when preserving healthy skin or checking the cancer’s edges is important. Dr. Zahner removes and examines tissue in stages to determine whether more needs to be removed. The diagnosis, location, and treatment history help determine whether Mohs is the right approach.
A native of the Chicago Western Suburbs, Dr. Zahner earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. He then graduated with his medical degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago before completing an internship in internal medicine at the Bexar County Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Zahner rounded out his training with a residency in dermatology at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, where he was named chief resident in his final year.
Dr. Zahner is certified by the American Society of Mohs Surgery and board-certified by the American Board of Dermatology. He has given several presentations at medical conferences and has been published in various medical journals for research in his field. He was also recognized by Consumers’ Checkbook in their list for Top Physicians in Dermatology.
Dr. Zahner is board-certified in Dermatology and Micrographic Dermatologic Surgery by the American Board of Dermatology. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and a member of the American Society for Mohs Surgery. His published dermatology research includes a 2024 case report on cutaneous sarcoidosis, which he coauthored.
