How Does Cyclosporine Work?
Cyclosporine is in the class of drugs known as immunosuppressants. As such, it works to suppress and weaken the immune system. This may seem odd, since the immune system protects the body. In some conditions, however, the immune system can grow out of control and damage the body’s own tissues. Cyclosporines stop white blood cells from damaging the body’s own tissue or, in some scenarios, transplanted tissues.
Conditions Treated by Cyclosporine
Cyclosporine is used in a number of conditions where the immune system behaves erratically. Common conditions treated by this drug include severe cases of psoriasis, eczema and allergic contact dermatitis.
